About Us

 Northeast Zebras has been a dream of Lori's for many reasons.

After being misdiagnosed for over 10 years including: GERD, IBS, Rosacea, abdominal issues and doctors just plain out telling her it was her head and really questioning whether she was lying about her eating habits Lori was diagnosed in December in 2009 with Carcinoid.

Lori all to well remembers that time when she went to her GI after doubling over even when drinking water.

She remembers still being questioned whether she drank soda, ate fried foods or even drank caffeinated products,

even though she already answered the questions before (which was no!) The GI then scheduled her for a colonoscopy, where a tumor was found in her terminal ileum with complete invasion. After pathology was done she was diagnosed with Carcinoid (Neurondocrine Tumor. - NET's)

 

During this journey she has met many people and professionals but has learned and felt that out here in Northeast Pennsylvania we could benefit from a support group, system.

 

She has many hopes, dreams and goals for this group. The intention for this group is to bring not only an online presence but have face-to-face meetings in the Northeast PA Counties. To bring survivors, caregivers, professionals, anyone who needs support or would like to gain some knowledge of Neurendocrine Tumors together. If you need someone to talk to, someone to listen, to share in our experiences in treatments, doctors, diagnosis, and/or quality of life.

 

Other goals would be to spread the word more about NET's; have local conferences and seminars; hold Zebra Walks; and provide education (knowledge) to professionals including ENT's and hospital ER staff, so NET patients are not more anxious during an emergency.  

 

These are just some of the goals, of course this would always be growing, but Lori feels the more important part would be to have a support system!
